Shoora Goviya (The Best Farmer)















Status  

An on-going project which is also a National Event conducted annually
 
 

Goal 

To encourage young people to enter the profession of farming as a professional vocation
 
 

Objectives   


  • To establish farming as an acceptable profession of high caliber and responsibility

  • To expose young farmers to immerging technologies and entrepreneurial management practices

     

Target Group  


  •  Any Sri Lankan from anywhere in the country with own farming resources

  • Those who reached top 15 in the previous year are not eligible.

     

Methodology  

The primary methods for achieving the goal and objectives of this project are:

  • Creation of well structured and island-wide farming competition amongst eligible citizens

  •  Involvement of an independent and reputed panel of  professionals from government, non-government and private sector institutions for the selection process of the competition

  • RUHUSEF team for the organization and logistical inputs

  • Use of extensive media coverage both electronic and print, throughout the competition

  • Special meetings and training sessions for competitors on the use of technological and management know-how in different parts of the country in a form of seminars and demonstrations.


Outputs and monitoring indicators:

  • Number of entries, number taking part and number completing the competition compared to previous year
